Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday laid foundation stones of two mega projects ? an IT city and a super-speciality hospital in Lucknow. These projects, he said, would not only boost the infrastructure of the state but also provide large-scale employment.

Yadav also announced the setting up of an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Lucknow.

The IT city project is to be developed through PPP by Vama Sundari Investments, a group company of Shiv Nadar’s HCL, across 100 acres and will see an investment of more than R1,500 crore over 10 years. The IT city will have a software and hardware development unit, BPOs and KPOs, and a hi-tech skill development centre empowered with a ‘walk to work’ concept.

The state government has marked this crucial project as a Special Economic Zone and will provide an interest subsidy up to R25 crore per annum to Vama Sundari for the development of the IT city.

?Developing this project is a dream for HCL. We plan to bring the world’s most advanced technologies to Lucknow as we did in Noida 38 years ago,? said HCL chairman Shiv Nadar.

The IT city will be part of a mega township called CG City on Lucknow-Sultanpur road and the campus will also feature another private investment in the form of a 1,000-bed super speciality Medanta hospital, the foundation stone of which was laid by the chief minister in presence of Medanta Group chairman Naresh Trehan.

Yadav said he hoped that the upcoming projects would be completed before the next elections.

“These projects which are going to come up here will increase the importance of Lucknow as well as Uttar Pradesh besides creating more job opportunities for our youth,” Yadav said.

The hospital will come up over an area of 12 acre in the same area. It would have a 300 bed intensive care unit (ICU) as well as 30 ultra-modern operation theatres. The IIIT will come up on over 50 acres of land. ?The medicity will go a long way in making Lucknow the new medical destination in Uttar Pradesh,? said a state government official.
