A hukamnama issued by a jathedar has raised a storm in the Sikh community.

Jathedar of Takht Patna Sahib (Bihar), Giani Iqbal Singh, have issued a hukamnama (edict) asking the community members to recite the ragmala hymns as part of the Guru Granth Sahib during prayers.

Akhand Kirtani Jatha, head and chief of Dharam Parchar Committee of SGPC, Giani Baldev Singh said the act by the jathedar was unacceptable, motivated and unpardonable.

In a statement issued here, he said according to the Sikh rahat maryada (Sikh code of conduct), approved by the Akal Takht, the reading of the granth during ?paths? could be with the ragmala or without as per the local traditions and final decision will be taken by the Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs.

?A jathedar can not take such important decision on his own,? said Giani Baldev Singh in a statement.
