The year 2009 brought Haryana on high-growth trajectory with the state witnessing various development projects.

By the end of year, the first unit of 2X600 mw Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project at Khedar in Hisar district was synchronised with grid.

The major projects sanctioned by the Centre for Haryana included a National Defence University at Binola in district Gurgaon and an extension of Aiims, New Delhi at village Bhadsa in Jhajjar district .

A central university was also sanctioned for Haryana and its first academic session is to be launched on January 4, 2009. The campus of the university will come up at village Jat-pali in district Mohendergarh.

The state Cabinet also gave its approval to the participation of the state government in the project of Chandigarh International Airport.

A 2,800-mw nuclear power plant at Kumharia in Fatehabad district received in-principle approval from the Centre.

On the agriculture front, two major incentives were announced for the farmers during the Budget session in February, which included decision on abolishing the law for the auction of farmers? land for not returning loans of banks and increase in price of all the three varieties of sugarcane from the next session.

Several pro-farmer and pro-poor initiatives were also implemented The effective rate of interest on crop loan came down from 7% to 4%. The state government also slashed interest rate on crop loan from 11% to 7%.
