UP state council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Thursday unveiled 10 commandments to hone up the states competitiveness in the presence of senior state government officials.
Speaking to FE, Jayant Krishna, outgoing chairman of UP state council says that in order to run and sustain the ?Brand UP? campaign and encourage a government-business-citizen relationship, it is the first important to improve the standard of livings of the people in the state. ?The state has to work relentlessly towards a significant increase in its human development index (HDI) with substantial improvement in outcomes, and not outlays, in healthcare and education sectors by bringing transformation in service delivery systems.
We also need to mass scale skill development programmes, which can impart skills to almost 10 crore people at the grass-root level by 2022. This would ensure that UP reaps a rich demographic dividend,? he states, adding that these are form the basic foundation of any strong economy, without which building a brand would turn out to be disastrous.
The other important points enumerated as the 10 commandments include effecting a significant increase in agriculture productivity, almost on a war-footing, which can lead to at least 100% increase in farmer?s earnings within 3-5 years. ?For this, amendments in the APMC Act are needed to reinforce UP?s leadership in the agriculture and agro-processing sectors,? adds Krishna.
In order to make the burgeoning young population of the state employable, the state government also needs to intensify the spread of quality education to improve the employability of technical and non-technical graduates. And while improving the employability of such a strong workforce is worked upon, it would also be imperative for the state to show greater ?hunger? in soliciting industrial investments, specially for large flagship and anchor industrial units with more SEZs, at least in the NCR and Lucknow-Kanpur belt.
