The Finance Minister introduced two new bills in the Lok Sabha to maintain high taxes on ‘sin goods’ like tobacco and pan masala after the GST compensation cess phase-out. The Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025, will impose excise duty on tobacco, while ‘The Health Security se National Security Cess Bill, 2025’ will apply to the production of pan masala and other goods.
