Annual milk production in Haryana has reached to 58.50 lakh tonne because of various steps taken by the state government for livestock development. The state?s per capita per day milk availability are also more than the national average of 252 grams at 668 grams. The state government was focusing on providing better animal health care to the cattle breeders by opening new veterinary institutions in the state, a spokesman of the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department said on Thursday. Presently, 2,789 veterinary institutions were functioning in the state to cater to the needs of the farmers. On an average every third village in the state had one or the other type of veterinary institution.

Meanwhile in neigbouring Punjab, Milkfed (Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers? Federation), which holds a 75% share in organised dairy sector in Punjab and 85% share in Chandigarh, has increased the procurement price of milk for farmers thrice in the last 45 days.
