In what could make Malaysia the first export market for Tata Motors’ Nano, the company is reportedly expressed its interest to work with the government-run vehicle manufacturer Proton Holdings to enter the market. FE had reported the company was looking at emerging and newer markets for export of its Nano. According to reports quoting the deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Tata Motors has expressed interest to enter Malaysian market and work with Proton on the prospects of taking the Nano to the Malaysian market.

?Ratan Tata is keen to work with Proton again. About seven or eight years ago, there were some joint discussions to manufacture cars, but nothing came out of it. Now, our automotive policy is more liberal and there are new opportunities,? said Muhyiddin, according to Malaysian national news agency Bernama. A Tata Motors spokesperson said, ?Tata Motors does not wish to comment on this.?
