The southern region of Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has hailed the recent decision of group of ministers to allow up to10 lakh tonnes of non-basmati rice exports. Walter D’Souza, regional chairman, FIEO southern region urged the authorities to issue the necessary notification immediately.

Highlighting the export potential of rice from southern region, he said that exporters in the region have already risen higher in the value chain to branding of fine variety of rice as Sona Masoori quality of rice which became favourite rice in a very short span of time. The ban on non-basmati rice exports since more than 3 years put exporters into serious trouble as they had spent time and energy for marketing Sona Masoori variety rice.
