Compared to the shuttered, black and white idiot boxes that most of us grew with, the television is now both stylish and smart. It can also be a thing of luxury, a subtle way of telling guests in the living room that you have arrived. The LG curved 4K OLED television (65-inch) is one such subtle message that comes in large packages.

We are all used to giant televisions now. A 40-inch is standard in homes that used to give pride of place to a 14-inch. At 65 inches, this one is one of the overgrown giants—but remember there are larger options too. Most of us don’t have houses where this screen won’t look like an elephant in a cow shed.

What is good?

At this price, everything about this television has to be good. And it is. Let’s start with the stunning 4K screen. The innovation here is that it is 4K, OLED and still curved. The curvature being the new addition. I have always believed 4K screens offer images sharper than natural vision. And with this screen on, it was as if there was a window to French Polynesia in our office.

The TV is pretty smart and the Web OS from LG is one of the most intuitive ways to control one. You can do everything you would on a tablet or a smartphones here. Yes, even pop out the camera to take a picture and edit it on screen. Why, you might ask. Not everything needs an answer. Just be happy there is Netflix there too.

The remote is very handy and works perfectly with the smart features of this screen. LG has been good at this for a few years and it has only gotten better.

What’s not good?

I still don’t find a great utility in a curved screen. Yes, it keeps the glare down. Yes, it seems more natural. But none of the above arguments justify the premium you end up paying at the moment.

Should you buy?

Can you buy? If yes, congratulations on having arrived. Sure go ahead and buy for this is certainly the best your money can get you at the moment. Others, please wipe the drool off your face.

Estimated street price: Rs 5,72,000
