Google doodle today pays tribute to French author Charles Perrault on his 388th birthday. Charles Perrault is the author of Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.
The Google doodle features scenes from both stories, as well as two of Charles Perrault famous fables, Mother Goose and Puss in Boots.
Charles Perrault is credited with laying the foundations for a new literary genre, the fairy tale, with his works derived from pre-existing folk tales. He was born on 12 January 1628 in Paris to a wealthy bourgeois family.
Perrault was an influential figure in the 17th-century French literary scene, and was the leader of the Modern faction during the Quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns.
