Taking a break from updates related to the Arattai app, Zoho Corp CEO Sridhar Vembu has urged Indian professionals and immigrants residing abroad, particularly in Western nations, to return to their homeland. Vembu says that India needs its most talented citizens to achieve prosperity.

Vembu’s latest comment on the immigration situation in the US, shared on X (formerly Twitter) was initially made on a research report, which highlighted the substantial fiscal contributions of Indian immigrants in the United States. The data showed Indian immigrants and their descendants contributing an average of $1.7 million to the US federal budget over 30 years, outperforming all other immigrant groups. Vembu acknowledged their success.

However, Sridhar Vembu quickly transitioned to a patriotic appeal, referring to the concerns over the rising anti-immigrant wave in parts of the West. Vembu asked, “From the migrant perspective, why stay where you are not welcome?”

“Bharat Mata wants you, needs you and welcomes you! Come home, let’s create a strong and prosperous Bharat,” he added.

Vembu, an entrepreneur himself, relocated from the US to the rural area of Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu. He emphasized the need to secure the nation’s intellectual future. “I hope India retains its best in the next generation. India also should attract some of the talent that left,” he wrote in the post.

With his new take, Vembu has ignited a renewed national debate on ‘brain drain’ and the viability of reverse migration. Many of his followers echoed his sentiment, praising the opportunity to contribute to India’s growth and harness its cultural strength. Others came up with a pragmatic counterpoint, hinting to domestic hurdles that often drive such talent away.
