Apple CEO Tim Cook cleared the air in an interview with Brut, “I think having an iPhone every year for those people that want it is a great thing.”
He also advocated for Apple’s trade-in program that enables users to exchange their old phones for new ones. Cook explained that functioning older iPhones are resold to different users, reducing waste.
He emphasised that even non-functional iPhones aren’t wasted, as Apple has processes to disassemble them and reuse materials for new devices. In the context of Apple’s big promises of “environmental concerns,” Cook acknowledged the criticism of frequent new iPhone releases.
Nonetheless, he asserted that Apple is committed to maximizing the value of older iPhones and strives to lead in environmental responsibility, aligning with the company’s dedication to sustainability.
