The Vivo V50 is launching in India on February 17, Vivo announced today. There is no Vivo V50 Pro joining it this time, it seems. The V50 is a sequel to last year’s V40 and just like its predecessor, it focuses a great deal on design and portrait photography. It is—like the V40—co-created with ZEISS, the legendary German lens maker.
Vivo has revealed almost everything about the V50 leading into launch day. The phone’s design and marquee feature set are out in the public domain. Like previous V-series phones, the V50 has an aesthetically pleasing design with “paper-thin” dimensions. Vivo claims it is India’s slimmest smartphone in the 6,000mAh battery category. The V40 has a 5,500mAh so, that’s one upgrade worth mentioning. Charging speeds could be 80W at the very least, given that the V40 has it.
The V50 is confirmed to launch in three colours. These are rose red, starry night and titanium gray. The core design is based on the V40’s though on the front, the V50 switches to a quad-curved display with “41-degree golden curvature.” We’ve seen these types of screens in recent phones from Chinese brands like Realme and even Vivo.
Coming to the cameras, the V50 has two 50-megapixel sensors on the back. One of them sits behind a wide lens with optical image stabilisation and the other, behind an ultrawide with 119-degree field of view and autofocus which should add to macro photography. The front camera is also a 50-megapixel and is being billed for group selfies since it has a fairly wide 92-degree FOV. It also has autofocus. Vivo has seemingly given its signature aura lighting an upgrade with “AI 3D studio algorithm” which offers 100 percent expanded light-emitting area.
Elsewhere, the V50 uses “shield glass” from Schott protection for the screen and IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance “making it reliable in rain, soaking, and wet or greasy hands for carefree usage in any condition,” per Vivo.
