Samsung Electronics is reportedly close to finalizing a major agreement to invest in Perplexity AI, aiming to bring the startup’s advanced search technology to the forefront of its device ecosystem. Sources familiar with the negotiations suggest that both companies are exploring options to pre-install Perplexity’s app and virtual assistant on future Samsung gadgets.
Discussions between Samsung and Perplexity reportedly extend to incorporating Perplexity’s AI capabilities into Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant. Sources indicate that Samsung may reveal these enhancements later this year. The ultimate objective is to position Perplexity-powered features as the default virtual assistant on the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, slated for release in the first half of 2026.
The two companies entered discussions about a partnership earlier this year, Bloomberg News reported.
Samsung is anticipated to play a key role as a major backer in an upcoming funding round for Perplexity, which is reportedly aiming to secure $500 million in fresh capital at a valuation of $14 billion. This potential collaboration could help Samsung reduce its dependence on Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, and move toward a more diverse AI ecosystem—mirroring Apple’s strategy of integrating multiple artificial intelligence technologies.
Perplexity has introduced Perplexity Labs, a cutting-edge AI-powered tool designed to help users make the most of online data and information. This new feature aims to streamline data exploration by generating dynamic dashboards, tables, and spreadsheets automatically—essentially doing the heavy lifting of research using advanced generative AI technologies.
According to an official blog post, “Using Perplexity is like having an always-available answer engine, while Labs feels like working with a full team. A Perplexity Lab empowers anyone to transform a concept into a fully-realized project.”
Perplexity Labs can be assigned complex research tasks on specific subjects. Once a prompt is entered, it performs web-based searches through its proprietary engine, writes and runs its own code, and presents the results in visually engaging formats such as interactive graphs, charts, and live data dashboards.
Currently, Perplexity Labs is accessible through Android, iOS, and web platforms. Versions for Mac and Windows will be released soon as part of Perplexity’s native desktop applications. This feature is exclusive to users subscribed to Perplexity Pro, which is priced at $20 per month (roughly Rs 1,711).
