NYT Connections is a fun and seemingly challenging word game from The New York Times. Like Wordle, Connections has quickly become a favourite among brain teaser aficionados putting their logical thinking and pattern-recognition skills to test each day, every day.
In Connections, players are presented with a 4×4 grid of 16 words. You must group them into four distinct categories, each containing four terms which are related. The categories are random, ranging from synonyms to pop culture references, items in your home or even types of animals and birds.
It might seem simple, on paper, but Connections is far from simple. It tests your wits, getting trickier as similar-sounding words or themes make finding the correct groups both exciting and challenging. It’s a fresh twist to brain teasers, as we know it. NYT drops one puzzle each day, keeping things fresh, and making eager players coming back for more.
How to play NYT Connections?
The free to play word game NYT Connections is available on The New York Times website and Games app. A new puzzle is released each day at midnight. Players have to organise 16 words into four groups of words based on hidden connections.
Groups are colour-coded from easiest (yellow) to hardest (purple), with purple often involving tricky wordplay. Look for themes between the words. It could be pop culture references, or phrases with the same meaning. Select four words, press “Submit,” and see if you’re right. FYI: some words might fit in more than one category. You are given four chances before the game ends.
