The year 2025 will be by far Nothing’s biggest yet, a leaked internal email from CEO Carl Pei suggests. In the email, the former OnePlus founder, has teased the Phone 3 and a “landmark” launch, set for some time in Q1. It isn’t immediately clear if both are one or two separate products. The email also reveals Nothing’s ongoing work around cameras and software which seem to be a focus area for the London-based technology company.
In the email—shared online by noted tipster Evan Blass—Pei talks about the stupendous success Nothing had achieved by beating the odds, through focus and hardware differentiation. 2024 was all about scaling, Pei writes, and Nothing ended it on a high by becoming the fastest-growing brand in the smartphone and audio industries. This has brought hopes and confidence to do even in 2025.
To do that, Nothing is making investments across its camera and software departments, expanding their teams by “almost 50 percent” to build “even better products.”
One of those products should be the Phone 3, which is categorically mentioned in the email. Nothing has taken its time with its next flagship smartphone, announcing these plans early on last year, since going by launch timelines, it was supposed to come last year. Among the several things that were promised, Nothing said the Phone 3 will be big on artificial intelligence. The email reiterates it once again while briefly touching upon “breakthrough innovations in user interface” which are unspecified at the time of writing.
“This year will mark the launch of our flagship Nothing Phone 3. It will introduce breakthrough innovations in user interface, taking our first step toward our Al-powered platform,” Pei said in the email. “We’re aiming at redefining the user experience of personal computing devices – creating technology that knows you, makes your life easier, and is present where you are. Technology that enables us to achieve our greatest creative potential.”
The mail ends with a more definite answer—”First up in Q1, we have a landmark smartphone launch that the world will be very excited to see.” But whether this landmark smartphone is Phone 3 or something else remains a mystery.
