You might get a new update for Meta’s latest Ray-Ban smart glasses. As reported by the Financial Times Meta plans to release an updated version of its Meta Ray-Ban glasses in the second half of 2025. As of now, the Meta Ray-Ban glasses are priced at $299. Here’s a look at what the update brings to you.
Ray-Ban to get a new display
The update is expected to include a small display with the capability to show notifications and responses from Meta’s AI assistant. Notably, the report had cited some anonymous sources who had teased about these updates.
So, what changes have been made in these glasses? Mark Zuckerberg has described smart glasses as the next “computing platform”. In addition to this, Meta also plans to invest billions in developing augmented-reality glasses. The main aim is to integrate artificial intelligence ( AI) and other developed tech capabilities into their wearer’s field of view. However,as of now Meta has not made any immediate response about the product launch.
The plans ahead
Looking ahead, Meta has also taken efforts to develop its Orion augmented-reality glasses. Zuckerberg had initially teased a prototype of Orion in September. He had also compared the glasses with a time machine. The glasses have the ability to project virtual objects into their frame. This means it can allow for viewing notifications, video calls and other computing capabilities. However, the Orion glasses are still available for developers to work with as a prototype.
Furthermore, Andrew Bosworth, Meta Chief Technology Officer said there is a next big step. He said, “There are big plans toward the metaverse envisioned by the company’s Reality Labs division.” He further highlighted that the company is combining AI glasses with augmented-reality experiences. In addition to this, the glasses also aim to prove that they are the best hardware for integrating AI capabilities.
