Although the iPhone 17 lineup is still several months from its official unveiling, speculation about the upcoming devices has been making rounds since well before the iPhone 16 series hit the market. This year, Apple is anticipated to unveil four models in the iPhone 17 family: the standard iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, the top-tier iPhone 17 Pro Max, and an all-new addition called the iPhone 17 “Air.” The company is reportedly discontinuing the “Plus” variant, as it has failed to gain significant traction among buyers. The slimmer iPhone 17 Air is not expected to serve as a direct successor to the iPhone 17 Plus but will instead arrive as a fresh entry within the lineup.

Based on Apple’s traditional launch schedule, the iPhone 17 family is expected to be revealed in early September. For comparison, the iPhone 16 was announced on September 9, the iPhone 15 on September 12, and the iPhone 14 on September 7. Well-known Apple insider Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has also suggested that September 9 or 10 are the most likely dates for the next keynote. Adding weight to this, an internal document from German mobile carriers recently indicated that September 9 could mark the official unveiling of the iPhone 17 lineup.

Fresh reports indicate that Apple could double the entry-level storage on the iPhone 17 series to 256GB, replacing the current 128GB base option. Should this upgrade take place, analysts predict a price jump of about $50 (approximately Rs 4,400). In that scenario, the standard iPhone 17 might debut at roughly Rs 83,300, compared to the Rs 79,900 launch price of the iPhone 16. If these leaks hold true, the premium models in the lineup are also expected to see a noticeable surge in pricing.
Multiple leaks suggest that the upcoming iPhone 17 Air could be priced at around $900 (approximately Rs 78,886). This would position it higher than the regular iPhone 17 yet more affordable than the Pro models, giving it a unique slot within the series. Considering this estimate is based on U.S. pricing, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to retail in India within the range of Rs 90,000 to Rs 1,00,000.
