Google is integrating Gemini into most of its services, and Gmail is the latest one to get a fresh dose of smart AI. Gmail has already had Gemini-assisted features for a while, helping users quickly draft popular messages and even alter the normality of an email document, other than summarising received emails. Now, though, Gmail will use Gemini to help with scheduling meetings.
Google has rolled out a major productivity boost to its Workspace suite with the launch of “Help me schedule.” The update integrates directly into Gmail, streamlining the tedious process of coordinating meeting times with others.
The new feature is designed to eliminate the back-and-forth emails typically required to find a suitable time slot. When a user is composing a reply to an email that mentions setting up a meeting, Gmail’s AI automatically detects the intent. A “Help me schedule* button appears in the toolbar, prompting the user to activate Gemini’s scheduling assistant.
How does ‘Help me schedule’ work in Gmail
– Users simply need to type out the email body and ensure that it talks about setting up a meeting. The integrated Gemini AI will scan the body text and bring up the “Help me schedule” button.
– Once activated, Gemini instantly scans the user’s Google Calendar and uses the context of the email conversation to suggest several viable meeting times. These time options are seamlessly inserted into the draft reply, ready to be sent to the recipient.
– The final step of the scheduling process is also fully automated. When the recipient selects one of the suggested times from the email, a Google Calendar invitation is automatically generated and sent to all parties involved, formalising the meeting without any further manual intervention from the sender.
This integration marks a significant step in Google’s efforts to embed Gemini’s capabilities across its Workspace applications. The update helps Gmail move beyond basic text generation to perform complex, multi-step actions smartly. The new feature builds upon existing AI tools within Gmail and is expected to roll out to Workspace users with Gemini access in the coming weeks.
