Ericsson has secured a new contract with Bharti Airtel to deploy centralised RAN (Radio Access Network) and Open RAN-ready solutions. This collaboration aims to enhance the capacity and coverage of Airtel’s network, thereby improving the overall customer experience for its users.

The agreement outlines Ericsson’s commitment to upgrading Airtel’s existing 4G infrastructure, with a focus on software enhancements to the deployed 4G radios. These upgrades are designed to optimise network performance, providing customers with better speeds, greater reliability, and wider coverage across the country.

Randeep Sekhon, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Bharti Airtel, highlighted the importance of this strategic partnership. He stated, “The strategic partnership with Ericsson to deploy the latest technology is a testament to Airtel’s pursuit of network excellence. This deployment will enable us to further improve the speed, reliability, and coverage of our network, ensuring an exceptional experience for our customers.”

Ericsson’s South-East Asia, Oceania, and India Head, Andres Vicente, also emphasized the shared vision between the two companies, focusing on building a robust infrastructure for both 4G and 5G services. He added, “This partnership extension reflects our shared vision to build a robust 4G and 5G infrastructure for Bharti Airtel to serve the connectivity needs of its customer base – including the new 5G use cases as they emerge. We will work closely with Bharti Airtel to deliver great user experiences for their customers.”

Ericsson currently powers 170 live 5G networks across more than 70 countries. Its technological leadership has been recognized by industry analysts, such as Frost Radar™ 5G Network Infrastructure Market 2024, where Ericsson was named the leader for the fourth consecutive year.

This collaboration is poised to play a crucial role in supporting Airtel’s transition towards 5G and continuing its network leadership in India.
