Menon’s remarkable journey earned him recognition, with the President of India conferring upon him the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Puraskar in 2009. Sobha Developers boasts a market capitalization of Rs 14,100 crores, solidifying its status as one of the leading unlisted real estate companies in the Gulf.
The story takes an intriguing turn when Menon, with a mere fifty rupees in his pocket, decides to accept an invitation to work in Oman. Overcoming the challenge of being in an unfamiliar city, he secured a loan of Rs 3.5 lakh and ventured into the field of interior decoration. Menon’s impeccable work soon garnered widespread acclaim, leading to larger projects and opportunities.
A notable achievement in his portfolio is the design of the Sultan of Brunei’s residence, showcasing Menon’s prowess as an architect. Notably, he served as a consultant for the Bangalore Infosys campus under the guidance of Narayana Murthy. Despite lacking a formal interior design degree, Menon’s reputation as a renowned architect extends to the United Arab Emirates.
Despite early hurdles, Menon expanded his business across Arab nations, establishing Sobha Limited in India, which operates in twelve states. His journey, from Rs 50 to a multibillion-dollar empire, stands as an inspiring testament to the power of determination and vision in the face of adversity.
