The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a setback in Haryana as its Faridabad candidate, Pravesh Mehta, joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday.
Mehta, 69, announced the decision during a public meeting at Purani Anaj Mandi in Old Faridabad. The attended by Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar, the BJP MP from Faridabad, and senior BJP leader Vipul Goel, who is the BJP’s candidate from Faridabad for the upcoming assembly election.
Goel welcomed Mehta to the BJP on X (formerly Twitter), saying that his addition would strengthen the party in Faridabad.
“The love, trust, and enthusiasm of the people towards the BJP make it clear that a historic victory is certain from Faridabad,” he said, adding that the BJP will form the government for a third consecutive term in the state.
The Aam Aadmi Party is contesting the Haryana Assembly elections on October 5 solo.
