Volvo Group and Vellore Institute of Technology have entered into a new collaboration, which they say will shape automobile engineers of the future.

The collaboration will see the introduction of a specialised credit course within VIT’s MTech program, designed to equip students with the latest automotive industry technologies.

The formal MoU signing saw the participation of Kamal Bali, President and MD, Volvo Group India; Dr. T. Jayabarathi, Registrar; Dr. G. Viswanathan, Chancellor and Dr T P Ranjith, Head of Talent Acquisition India.

The partners will introduce a specialised credit course within VIT’s MTech program designed to equip students with the latest automotive industry technologies and practical skills, besides offering a comprehensive understanding of industry trends, best practices, and real-world challenges. The program includes knowledge sharing opportunities which could include combined classes involving Volvo’s technical experts along with VIT’s faculty.

Kamal Bali said, “We are in the midst of once in a life, eco-system wide transformation in our Industry. However, no one single stakeholder can shape this future. An ecosystem transformation requires collaboration across stakeholders, and this includes collaboration with the academia. With this collaboration with VIT, we aim to nurture talent and create a pipeline of skilled and industry-ready professionals who can drive innovation and excellence – and who in themselves will be the architects & the leaders of the future we are shaping”.

The students enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to participate as interns at Volvo and potentially be hired as post-graduate engineering trainees in the organisation. These internships will allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting. Moreover, it will also enable them to kickstart their careers in the automotive sector.

This partners state that the collaboration promises to shape the next generation of automotive leaders, bridging the gap between theory and practice. It aims to provide a holistic learning environment where students will benefit from the combined expertise of VIT’s faculty and Volvo’s seasoned professionals.
