Tata Motors Shailesh Chandra takes over as SIAM president

Elected by the executive committee of SIAM, Shailesh Chandra has previously served as the Vice President under the same apex body.

The Executive Committee of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex body representing automobile manufacturers, elected Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, as its new President for 2024 – 25. 

Shailesh Chandra, who previously served as the Vice President of SIAM, succeeds Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director & CEO of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles. The new office bearers were elected during the Executive Committee Meeting held today.

Shailesh Chandra, President, SIAM and Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles & Tata Passenger Electric Mobility said, “PM e-DRIVE scheme of Rs. 10,900 crores, which includes two-wheelers, three-wheelers, ambulances, trucks and e-buses and PM-eBus sewa payment security mechanism of Rs. 3,435 crores is a progressive step that underscores the firm commitment towards promoting sustainable mobility. It will undoubtedly help accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across the country, making clean and green transportation more accessible to all.”

He further added, “This forward-thinking initiative reflects the Government’s unwavering support for India’s transition to electric mobility, fostering innovation and investment within the sector. We believe this scheme will not only enhance the growth of the EV ecosystem but also strengthen India’s leadership in the global movement towards environmental sustainability. The automotive industry stands ready to continue working collaboratively with the Government to ensure advancements in EV technology and infrastructure, aligning our efforts with the nation’s ambitious goals for a cleaner, greener future.”

The members of SIAM also elected Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO, Ashok Leyland, as the Vice President of SIAM and Satyakam Arya, CEO & MD, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles as the Treasurer of SIAM for 2024 – 25.

SIAM, a charitable society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, aims to advance the automobile industry’s role in India’s economic growth, social responsibility, and safety, and is recognized as a charitable institution under the Income Tax Act, 1961.
