India Auto LPG Coalition urge for adoption of LPG as a viable fuel option.

The Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC) has taken a very proactive approach towards promoting cleaner and cost-effective alternative fuels, considering it to be a viable fuel option, by writing letters to major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai Motor India, Bajaj Auto, and Kia Motors. The letters highlighted the critical advantages of Auto LPG and proposed collaborating with OEMs to advocate for policy support and incentives for Auto LPG, creating a conducive environment for its adoption.

The company stated that the Auto LPG, which is a true ‘Net Zero Hero’ emits 20% less CO2 than petrol and 60% less than diesel, produces almost no particulate matter (PM), and has significantly lower NOx emissions, reducing air pollution and health issues. It is sourced from diverse geographies like the USA and the Middle East, ensuring a stable supply chain. Additionally, Auto LPG is around 40% cheaper than petrol, and converting a petrol vehicle to Auto LPG costs about ₹30,000, much lower than the ₹3-5 lakh incremental cost for an electric vehicle (EV).

Suyash Gupta, Director General, Indian Auto LPG Coalition said, “Adopting Auto LPG offers numerous advantages for OEMs, including meeting the growing demand for cleaner, economical fuel options amid rising fuel prices and environmental awareness. It provides a competitive edge and cost benefits due to lower conversion and infrastructure costs compared to EVs and CNG. Additionally, Auto LPG helps OEMs comply with India’s stricter emission norms, ensuring sustainability. The IAC believes that with OEMs; and visionary leadership, Auto LPG can significantly contribute to India’s sustainable future.”
