“The current wicketkeeper-batsman for Pakistan, Mohammed Rizwan, embarked on his ODI journey in April 2015 against Bangladesh. However, despite his early debut, he has not yet had the opportunity to feature in an ODI World Cup match. In 2019, he was part of the squad as a backup player when Pakistan faced a disappointing group-stage exit in the UK. But this year marks a significant change, as Rizwan is set to be the first name on the team sheet when the Men in Green head to India for the 2023 World Cup.
Rizwan, known for his aggressive batting style, boasts a record of 59 ODIs, accumulating 1,431 runs, with a noteworthy highest score of 115 against Australia in the 2018/19 season. In this format, he has recorded two centuries and nine half-centuries.
2023 has proven to be Rizwan’s best ODI year statistically, with an impressive average of 68.60 and a strike rate of 94.75. While he typically opens the batting for Pakistan in T20Is, Rizwan often occupies the No. 4 position in the ODI lineup. His cricketing journey has seen him represent various teams, including Lahore Qalandars, Sylhet Sixers, Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Comilla Victorians, and Vancouver Knights, among others.
Reflecting on a memorable ODI performance, Rizwan notched up a century, scoring 115 runs off 126 balls against Australia in Sharjah during the 2019 series. Despite his exceptional effort, Aussie captain Aaron Finch’s heroic 153 led his team to victory.
On a more personal note, Rizwan is an ardent fan of Australian legend Adam Gilchrist and also holds a strong affinity for the Brazil football team. Additionally, he is known for carrying a medicated pillow with him wherever he goes. Explaining the reason behind it, he mentioned, “”Being a wicketkeeper, there’s always a problem in the neck region. Due to constantly wearing a helmet while keeping or batting, sometimes the neck muscles become tight or rigid. This is why I have been referred to a medicated pillow so that I can sleep comfortably.””
