Musk congratulates ‘copycat’ Bezos: Rivalry put aside amid NASA Mars mission, successful booster landing

The billionaire space race just got more exciting. Elon Musk is now congratulating Jeff Bezos for following in SpaceX’s footsteps.

Elon Musk, who once called his tech billionaire foe Jeff Bezos a “copycat,” momentarily put aside the rivalry between them to congratulate the Amazon founder following the successful liftoff of Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket.

After a days-long delay due to bad weather, two identical Mars obiters, called Escapade, took off for the Red Planet on Thursday (US time). Launching from Florida’s Cape Canaveral, Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket has since reached space successfully.

But an even more eye-grabbing feat is being credited to the booster rocket that separated from the upper stage, ultimately returning to Earth and safely landing in the Atlantic Ocean. This particularly has left Bezos’ company on par with Musk’s counterpart, as Blue Origin, too, has a reusable rocket now, which could essentially help bring down cost of pushing satellites in orbit.

The achievement only further fanned the competitive tussle between Musk’s SpaceX and Bezos’ Blue Origin, as the former company has been only one to land a booster vertically after launching it toward orbit.

“Congratulations @JeffBezos and the Blue Origin team!” the Tesla CEO wrote on X? His post came as a response to the Bezos-backed company’s joyous tweet that read: “BOOSTER TOUCHDOWN! New Glenn returns to its blue origin.”

Netizens couldn’t help by rave about the healthy rivalry growing to newer heights in space.

“I think we can safely and officially say the billionaire space race is well and truly alive, well done everyone at blue origin for landing a booster! Elon Musk and SpaceX have competition and I’m here for it! What a time to be alive!” someone commented after Blue Origin’s successful endeavour on Thursday.

Another person added, “Elon congratulating Bezos is the closest thing we’ll ever get to the ‘Avengers Assemble’ of billionaires,” after catching sight of Musk’s tweet.

In addition to the SpaceX boss’ congratulatory note, Jared Isaacman also shared words of praise on the SNS platform. The Musk ally, who recently gained favour in US President Donald Trump’s circle as a nominee to head NASA, wrote, “Damn that was exciting!”
