Rivers in Jammu overflowed with strong floodwaters sweeping away everything in their path. Trees, rocks and boulders rolled down the slopes, leading to the death of at least nine pilgrims who were hit by a landslide on the Vaishno Devi route. Due to the heavy rain, the Jammu and Kashmir government has shut down all schools and offices, except for essential services and law enforcement. The weather department has warned of very heavy rainfall in the Jammu division for the next 40 hours. River levels in the Basantar, Tawi, and Chenab are already at the danger mark. People have been strictly told to stay away from riversides and low-lying flood areas. (Image source: PTI)
