As the scorching sun continues to beat down relentlessly, the extreme heatwave has disrupted the everyday lives of people in India.
The oppressive heat (coupled with high humidity in some places) has created severe conditions for residents, making even regular activities a challenge!
Authorities have issued warnings and urged people to take precautions and stay hydrated.
Outdoor workers, such as street vendors and construction labourers, are facing heightened risks of heat-related illnesses, further aggravating the situation.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that in several parts of India, heat wave conditions continued to prevail.
At least five more days, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are very likely to continue in the south Bengal districts, the Met office said.
From May 5, people are likely to get respite from the prevailing heatwave conditions in the region with the possibility of rain in the coastal districts owing to the incursion of moisture from the Bay of Bengal, an IMD official said.
In the wake of the sweltering heat across the state, the Jharkhand government has suspended classes up to grade 8 from Tuesday. An official said classes 9 to 12 will function from 7 am to 11.30 am, excluding prayer meetings, sports, and other activities. The weather department has issued a heatwave alert for 13 districts on April 30 and May 1. -
