Udhampur attack: Father of terrorist fears for life</br><br> A Pakistani, believed to be the father of the terrorist nabbed near Udhampur, said that Lashar-e-Toiba probably wanted his son dead and not caught alive and he himself feared for his life now. "I'll be killed. The Lashkar is after us and the fauj (army) is after us," Mohammad Yaqub said when contacted on a phone number given to the interrogators by Mohammad Naved, who was captured alive by villagers after the attack on a BSF convoy.' Identifying himself as the "unfortunate father" of the attacker, Mohammad Yakub said, "you are calling from India. We'll be killed." He added, "the Lashkar is after us. They probably wanted him dead and not caught alive. Please spare him." (PTI)

Shatrughan Sinha meets Arvind Kejriwal, says AAP govt 'working fine'</br><br> The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Shatrughan Sinha, who is said to be unhappy with party leadership, today met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and praised the Aam Aadmi party (AAP) government saying it was "working fine", adding to the discomfiture of the saffron party. Both sides played down the nearly hour-long meeting that took place at Kejriwal's residence, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and senior AAP leader Ashutosh claiming that politics was not discussed. Sinha said he "likes" Kejriwal as a Chief Minister. "His government was working fine." (PTI)

Narendra Modi can't ask Swaraj, CMs to step down, says Manish Tewari</br><br> PM Narendra Modi's "old track record" of Godhra riots is preventing him from asking his junior colleagues, who are facing corruption charges, to step down, former Union Minister Manish Tewari charged here today. "Prime Minister cannot ask the Ministers and chief ministers to step down even if he wants to…because of his old track record of the Godhra riots," Tewari told reporters here. "Be it the External Affairs Minister, the Rajasthan CM or the Madhya Pradesh CM…If Modi asks them to resign, they will say that when you (Modi) were accused of the riots when you were the CM, we stood by you and now when we are being accused, you are asking us to resign so your (Modi's) resignation should come first," he said. MP train accident: Water gushed 36 ft high breaching tracks: Indian Railways</br><br> Water from a rain-swollen river gushed 36 feet high breaching tracks which was just 13 feet above the river bed triggering the "freak" derailment of two express trains in Madhya Pradesh which Railways today claimed could not have been averted. As rescue operations in the twin derailment that killed 28 people were wound up, a top Railway official claimed that it could not have been averted despite the monsoon preparedness and described the mishap as one of its kind and a "freak" incident. Congress rejects Sushma Swaraj's defence a 'tear-jerker'</br><br> Rejecting as "tear-jerker" Union Minister Sushma Swaraj's emotional statement on Lalit Modi controversy, Congress today said it was "punctured with multiple holes" and attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he cannot "brazen it out" by remaining silent. Party spokesperson Anand Sharma accused Modi and Swaraj of once again having "misled" the nation "shamelessly". Lalu comes in support of Nitish in 'DNA' spat with BJP</br><br> Amidst spat between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and NDA leaders over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'DNA' comment on Kumar, RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav today came in support of the Bihar CM. "Gujarati bosses of BJP don't have credentials to lambast DNA and genes of the descendants of Gautam Buddha, Karna, Bimbisar, Ashoka and Chanakya," the RJD chief said in his Twitter handle. AAP MLA booked for beating NDMC worker fails to join probe</br><br> Aam Aadmi Party MLA Surinder Singh who has been booked for allegedly beating and manhandling a worker of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), failed to join police probe today. "He was called for questioning at 11.30 am today but he did not come. We have summoned him again for questioning tomorrow at 12 noon," said a senior police officer. The MLA and his companions had allegedly beaten and manhandled a beldar of NDMC Mukesh who was part of a team that was conducting a routine check of encroachment in Tughlaq Road area on August 4. Sanitary Inspector R J Meena said the NDMC team was acting against a vendor for encroachment when the MLA arrived and started arguing in favour of him and later beat up Mukesh along with his men. Bribery scam: Alemao remanded to four-day police custody</br><br> Former Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao was today remanded to four-day police custody by a court here in connection with the Louis Berger bribery case hours after his arrrest by the Goa Crime Branch, which is now closing in on former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat. Alemao, who was minister in the previous Congress Government led by Digambar Kamat, was taken into custody from Agassaim village in South Goa around midnight. His bail petition would be heard by the District and Sessions Court tomorrow. (PTI)
