Government of Punjab has imposed lockdown in the state from 7 pm to 5 am in a bid to contain the spread of Coronavirus, news agency ANI reports. According to the Health Ministry data, there are total 14,640 active cases in Punjab while 30,231 patients have recovered so far.
As the number of COVID-19 positive MLAs/Ministers rose to 29, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday appealed to all other legislators who had come in contact with them to avoid attending the one-day Vidhan Sabha session tomorrow, the report said.
Earlier on August 25, Punjab government had decided to extend the validity of driving licenses, registration certificates and permits which expired on 1st February this year or maybe expiring anytime before 30th Dec 2020. All these will now be valid till 31st Dec 2020, Punjab CM Capt. Amarinder Singh had said.
COVID-19 cases in Punjab today
Punjab today reported its sharpest single-day spike of 1,746 COVID-19 cases. The total case tally in the state has gone up to 47,836, while 37 more fatalities have pushed the death toll to 1,256, state’s medical bulletin said. According to a PTI report, of the latest deaths, seven were reported from Amritsar; five each from Ludhiana, Sangrur and Mohali; four from Patiala; two each from Hoshiarpur, Pathankot and Tarn Taran; and one each from Barnala, Fazilka, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar and Rupnagar.
Ludhiana today reported the maximum number of fresh cases at 350, followed by 210 in Gurdaspur, 188 in Patiala, 186 in Jalandhar, 178 in Mohali, 127 in Bathinda, 94 in Hoshiarpur, and 74 in Amritsar. As many as 741 coronavirus patients have been discharged as they recovered from the infection. So far 30,972 people have been cured of the infection in Punjab. At present, there are 15,608 active COVID-19 cases in the state, according to the states medical bulletin.
