Nokia P smartphone leak: A stunning new device could come soon; here’s what we know so far

Nokia, once a pioneer in the mobile phone market, is now aggressively trying to make a great comeback in 2017. HMD Global the new owners of the Nokia brand will be manufacturing some new smartphones and the latest devices are speculated to be launched early in 2017. A new device called Nokia P appears to be on the cards by the company, according to certain leaks on popular websites like China’s Weibo and PokcectLint. These reports suggest a few specifications regarding the Nokia P device. The next by Nokia will feature a Quad HD display resolution, 6GB RAM and will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor. The device will pack a 23-megapixel camera at the back with the famous-for-Nokia Carl Zeiss lens.

The top of the line features in Nokia P suggested by the leaks mean that the smartphone might just be a flagship smartphone. But there is no clarity on the launch date of the device. Nokia in a bid to make a comeback with smartphones is expected to launch an Android device at the Mobile World Congress in 2017. Nokia has reportedly been trying to revive its smartphones in a market it once dominated but was overcome by the likes of Apple and Samsung. India will play an important role in its revival, as it was highly popular in the country. HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela in an interview to PTI said, “We want to be successful (in India) and we will also tailor our offerings not only for feature phones but for smartphones for Indian consumers.”

Two feature phones seem to be on the cards. The Nokia 150 and 150 dual-SIM will launch globally in the January- March quarter. Interestingly, it is a Series 30+ device which looks almost the same as the Nokia 216 which was launched in September this year. The Nokia 2016 was Microsoft’s last device. Nokia is also expected to launch its latest smartphone D1C at the Mobile World Congress 2017. Reports claimed that the D1C smartphone is expected to come in two versions. The 2GB RAM variant will be priced around $150 and the 3GB version will coast $200 (around Rs 10,000 and Rs 13,000 respectively).
