Cloud storage service Dropbox has announced that it is enabling USB security keys for a two-factor login.

According to The Verge, the USB security keys will allow the users to supplement the conventional password login with a physical device.

Security keys are physical USB dongles that allow the users to bypass the traditional app- and text message-based two-factor authentication schemes with their six-digit codes by simply plugging the key into the user’s computer.

The advantage of these keys is that they make it almost impossible for a hacker to intercept both the user’s password and the two-factor code. Normal two-factor authentication, still leaves the users vulnerable to phishing attacks while security keys will only exchange their codes with legitimate sites.
