To celebrate the milestone, Zuckerberg also announced some new features to the platform.

Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg announced that WhatsApp Channels has surpassed 500 million monthly active users. Channels is a new way to get updates from people, organisations, and teams you follow on WhatsApp. Channels are separate from your private chats, and who you choose to follow is not visible to other followers.

To celebrate the milestone, Zuckerberg also announced some new features to the platform. One of the latest additions to WhatsApp Channels is the introduction of Stickers, enhancing the user experience and providing a more expressive way for users to engage with the content they follow. The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, with users expressing their enjoyment in receiving updates from their chosen channels. Channel administrators have also embraced this new format as a powerful tool to connect with their followers in a more dynamic and interactive manner.

Popular personalities like Diljit Dosanjh and Chef Ranveer Brar have shared insights into how they are using WhatsApp Channels to connect with their audience. The diverse range of channels includes entertainment figures such as Katrina Kaif, Allu Arjun, and Vijay Deverakonda, as well as sports channels like the International Cricket Council, Mumbai Indians, and the Indian Cricket Team.

WhatsApp launched Channels in June 2023. Channels is a one-way broadcasting tool that allows users to send messages to a large audience. It was announced by him on his WhatsApp channel.  It is available in more than 150 countries including India.

“Excited to introduce you all to WhatsApp Channels, a new private way for you to get updates from people and organizations you follow. I’m starting this channel to share Meta news and updates. Looking forward to connecting with you all around the world,” Zuckerberg wrote while announcing the feature.
