Many of us have faced the situation of losing our phone, where mostly it was a theft. In such cases it has been hard for us to trace our phones. But what if I tell you that now you can easily trace your phone with the new safety updates by Google. Yes Google has come up with new safety features to protect your device.
As reported by tipster Mishaal Rahman, Google will be bringing some advanced safety features. These can help you to get back your phone. Additionally it will also protect your device from getting hacked. Here’s a detailed look of the new safety features.
Google brings new safety features
Google will bring three new safety structures. These include Offline Device Lock, Theft Detection Lock and Remote Lock. So, what does this mean for you? With these features android devices can lock itself automatically. For example, your device gets stolen and the thief tries to open your phone, it will lock automatically. Any kind of suspicious activity will lead the device to lock your data. This will make it hard for thieves to access the stolen devices. However, as of now these features will only be available in the US markets. Google plans to make them available for India soon.
Coming to the details of the working process of the features, the Theft detection lock can detect that your device has been snatched from you. It can recognise any unfamiliar movements. When detected, it will lock the device. This works on trained machine learning and can analyze patterns of the phone’s movement. Next comes the offline device lock. This feature locks your device if someone tries to disconnect the internet connection. For example the thief tries to switch off the device or put it on flight mode, the feature will lock your device.
Lastly, we have the remote lock feature. This feature allows you to lock your device remotely. You can lock your stolen device using the phone number. In case your ‘find my device’ is not working, this feature adds an extra layer of protection.
The way ahead
Reportedly, the new locks features are expected to be available across multiple Android devices. However, as of now the safety features will roll out for specific models. Initially, in August the features first entered beta testing phase in Brazil. Now it has been expanded to a larger number of users. Furthermore, more users in the U.S. are expected to receive the features soon.
However, some users have reported that some of them have got the theft detection lock but not the remote lock. On the other hand some Pixel users have access to remote lock but not the theft detection feature.
