Spam calls have become a pervasive nuisance, disrupting countless individuals’ daily lives and interrupting them with unwanted solicitations. These intrusive calls, often made by unregistered telemarketers, not only invade personal privacy but also pose security risks by potentially exposing users to fraudulent schemes and scams. As the frequency and volume of these unwanted communications rise in India, both users and regulatory bodies have become increasingly concerned about the effectiveness of current measures to curb this issue.
In response to this growing problem, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken significant action to address the spam call crisis. TRAI today announced a major crackdown on this issue, revealing that 50 companies have been blacklisted and 2.75 lakh telecom resources have been disconnected as part of their enforcement measures.
This decisive action comes in the wake of a surge in complaints, with over 7.9 lakh reported in the first half of the year. TRAI’s new directives aim to discourage promotional calls from unregistered telemarketers and ensure that only authorised communications reach users, thereby improving the overall quality and reliability of telecom services in India.
In a decisive move to tackle the escalating issue of spam calls from unregistered telemarketers, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has implemented stringent measures, resulting in the blacklisting of 50 companies and the disconnection of 2.75 lakh telecom resources. This action underscores TRAI’s commitment to improving user experience and curbing the misuse of telecom services.
According to a TRAI release issued on September 3, 2024, the telecom access providers have acted on the regulator’s directive by disconnecting a significant number of SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) DID (Direct Inward Dialing) numbers, mobile numbers, and other telecom resources. This move is part of a broader crackdown aimed at addressing the widespread issue of spam calls, particularly those originating from unregistered telemarketers.
