Qualcomm has recently introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, a new chipset for the next generation of smartphones. This platform features Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU, designed to enhance performance and support advanced on-device generative AI while maintaining user privacy.
This powerful processor promises enhanced capabilities, making it a popular choice for leading smartphone manufacturers. It supports advanced on-device AI, including multimodal generative AI capable of processing voice, text, and images, and even interprets live camera views. The new AI ISP, integrated with the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, enhances real-time image capture. With leading smartphone manufacturers gearing up to launch devices powered by this new technology, we take a look at five upcoming smartphones that will utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
1. OnePlus 13: Redefining Performance
The upcoming OnePlus 13 will come with Snapdragon 8 Elite. The flagship model is expected to deliver blazing-fast performance with improved AI capabilities. OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 13 will launch in China on October 31 at 4 PM, though the date for its release in India remains unannounced. The smartphone will come in three colours: White Dawn, Obsidian Black, and Blue Moment. It will be the first device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and is expected to cost CNY 5,299 (approximately Rs 62,627) for the 16GB RAM and 512GB storage variant is.
The OnePlus 13 is anticipated to feature a 6.8-inch BOE X2 LTPO AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 6,000 nits, ensuring excellent visibility. A 6,000mAh battery and an IP68/69 rating for water and dust resistance are also expected. Additionally, it will incorporate the latest Hasselblad imaging system, a second-generation BOE X2 display, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for enhanced security. Expected specifications include a robust 6,500mAh battery with fast charging support. It is likely to feature a periscope telephoto lens with a redesigned camera island, housing a 50MP Sony IMX906 primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP Sony IMX882 telephoto lens. The smartphone will run on Android 15, come with 16GB of RAM, and is anticipated to have an IP68/69 rating for water resistance. Additionally, it may incorporate Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for enhanced security.
3. iQOO 13: The Gamers’ Delight
The iQOO 13 is set to launch in China soon, with an anticipated Indian release on December 5. Key specifications include a 2K Q10 Everest display, likely around 6.82 inches, featuring a 144Hz refresh rate for enhanced brightness and colour accuracy. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset complemented by a heat dissipation system using multi-layer graphene and a 7K ultra-large VC heat spreader. The smartphone will also have a 6,150mAh battery with 120W wired fast charging support.
4. Xiaomi 15: Pushing Boundaries
The Xiaomi 15 will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, promising robust performance. It is expected to run the latest version of HyperOS out of the box. Leaks suggest it will come equipped with 16GB of RAM.
5. Honor Magic 7: The Flagship Powerhouse
The Honor Magic 7 is poised to make waves in the premium smartphone segment with its advanced specifications and innovative features, making it a strong contender against its rivals. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and feature a high-resolution OLED display, approximately 6.76 inches. The camera setup may include a high-resolution main sensor, ultra-wide lens, and a periscope telephoto lens for versatile photography options. The device is anticipated to house a sizable 5,000mAh battery with fast charging capabilities.
