Snapchat update fixes biggest complaints ever: Retain chats permanently and create streaks with groups

To activate it, users must toggle the setting for a specific conversation, and both participants will be notified of the change, ensuring transparency in privacy.

Snapchat’s latest update addresses two key concerns that users have had for years. The instant messaging service, which rose to fame for its introduction of Stories, has been around for years as a fun platform for friends and family to engage. As rival Meta continues to evolve its WhatsApp and Instagram services, Snapchat has now come up with a feature update that intends to bring more people on board.

As part of the new update, Snapchat has introduced two major new features – Infinite Retention for chats and Group Streaks. The company has been testing these two features for a while and is now ready to roll them out publicly.

Snapchat will now save chats forever

For years, Snapchat’s appeal lay in its disappearing message feature, where chats and Snaps vanished after being viewed. With the new Infinite Retention feature, users can now permanently save conversations.

While users could save individual messages, this new update applies to the entire chat. To activate it, users must toggle the setting for a specific conversation, and both participants will be notified of the change, ensuring transparency in privacy. Similarly, both sides will be notified when the chat retention features are disabled.

The allowance of saving conversations will now encourage more of its users to rely on Snapchat as their primary source of conversations between close ones.

Group Streaks

After Snap Streaks, Snapchat is now expanding the concept to group chats. So far, Snapchat tracks consecutive days of communication only between two individuals. Group Streaks will allow a collective effort to maintain a streak, where most members of a group must send a Snap within a 24-hour period to keep the streak going. This update aims to boost engagement within group chats, turning streaks into a shared achievement and encouraging a fun way for friends to stay connected.

With both of these features, Snapchat hopes to increase engagement on its platform and encourage more people to try out its services, thus challenging Meta’s WhatsApp and other messaging services.
