Slack, a cross-platform instant messaging service, is retiring its status account on X, formerly Twitter. Slack’s status account previously shared updates about issues on the social media platform.

Slack’s VP of customer experience told The Verge, “We made the decision to retire the @SlackStatus account in order to consolidate our communications around incidents and focus resources on those most widely used by our customers.”

This announcement comes after a post from @SlackStatus on X. It reads, “We have made the decision to retire this account. Moving forward, the Slack Status site, status.slack.com, will be the source of truth for all incident news. Alerts will also be available through the RSS and Atom feeds linked at the bottom of the Slack Status home page.”

The account was a helpful way to get notified when Slack was looking into problems. If you want to stay updated on Slack’s status in the future, Slack notes, “We’ll continue to share other Slack news and provide support through our main account, @SlackHQ. You can also reach us at feedback@slack.com with any questions or feedback you may have.”

Moreover, the Slack Status account’s bio also notes, “This account is no longer active,” and suggests checking out its main handle @SlackHQ. Slack Status had joined X in November 2014 and currently has over 30.9k followers, at the time of writing.

Similarly, other companies like American Express, Air France and even Apple have scaled back their involvement with X. For instance, American Express made its @AskAmex account private and started informing customers of its inactivity as of August 1. Air France and Apple no longer provide customer service via direct messages on X.
