Samsung apparently wants to build an AI smartphone. The South Korean major is said to have applied to secure the rights to a bunch of marketing names ahead of Samsung Galaxy S24 series launch, including AI phone and AI smartphone, leading to speculation that the line-up could be marketed on similar lines. That won’t be completely surprising, too, as Samsung has made it abundantly clear that artificial intelligence and generative AI are at the top of its agenda now and going forward.

According to a new report from Galaxyclub, Samsung has filed trademark applications for AI phone and AI smartphone and while it may find it hard to secure their rights since the terms are quite generic, the move surely goes to show the company’s ambitions. Only recently, it announced the Galaxy AI mobile AI experience powered by its in-house Gauss language model, which is set to debut on its Galaxy S24 line-up.

In a press release sent out to the media, Samsung said some of the best benefits of AI were yet to be fully realised in the mobile space and that Galaxy AI would – presumably—change that. Galaxy AI will use self-developed on-device AI and collaborative cloud-based AI to “transform your everyday mobile experience with the peace of mind you count on from Galaxy security and privacy” according to Samsung.

Samsung has also already teased the first of many AI features coming to Galaxy devices soon. It’s called AI Live Translate Call and as the name suggests, it will allow Galaxy users to get audio and text translations during phone calls in real time through Samsung’s native phone app.

The Galaxy S24 series is tipped to launch a bit earlier than usual. Rumour mill has it that Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked will take place on January 17, 2024, in San Francisco. Stay tuned for more updates.
