Poco has announced that its next product in India will be a smartphone called the Poco X6 Neo. The timing of the announcement couldn’t be more strategic. Poco India head Himanshu Tandon took to his X handle to announce their upcoming phone will simultaneously taking a dig at the Realme 12, one of two smartphones from the Realme 12 series.

Tandon pointed out what he felt were “red flags” for the Realme 12 calling out Realme for putting an LCD panel and a MediaTek Dimensity 6100 Plus processor inside a 17K smartphone (the Realme 12 starts at Rs 16,999 for a version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage). The senior executive reiterated that their Poco M65 5G had the same chip and cost less than Rs 10,000 before throwing his hat into the ring urging buyers to wait for the Poco X6 Neo instead.

Speculation is rife that the Poco X6 Neo could be a rebranded Redmi Note 13R Pro from China which itself is a rebranded Redmi Note 13 with a slightly different back panel design. It should hardly come as a surprise. In our launch story covering the phone, we had mentioned how the Redmi Note 13R Pro had all the underpinnings of a Poco phone. The Poco X6 itself is a rebranded Redmi Note 13 Pro. The only difference is that the Poco X6 has a less powerful primary camera (64MP versus 200MP). But then it also costs less.

The Poco X6 Neo if it is based on the Redmi Note 13R Pro/Redmi Note 13 should be more affordable than the Poco X6 in which case a price of under Rs 20,000 becomes a dead given. We’ll see.

The Redmi Note 13R Pro has the exact specifications as the Redmi Note 13. It has the same 6.67-inch 1080p OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and hole punch cut-out at the centre, the same MediaTek Dimensity 6080 chip and the same 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support baked in. For photography, it has a dual camera setup on the rear headlined by a 108-megapixel primary sensor while on the front, it has a 16-megapixel selfie shooter. The only niggle is that there is a big possibility that it would run the older MIUI 14 and not Xiaomi HyperOS like the Poco X6. Watch this space for more updates.
