OpenAI has created a holiday plan for you. As reported by the  Verge,  the AI startup plans to roll out a “shipmas” period. This could bring new products, features and demos for 12 days. The event started on December 5.

The announcements will include OpenAI’s Sora, its  much awaited text-to-video AI tool and a new reasoning model. The news has been confirmed by sources familiar with OpenAI’s plans.

OpenAI introduces ‘Shipmas’: What to expect

On Wednesday morning, during the New York Times’ DealBook conference,OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed about the 12 announcements onstage. However,  he didn’t mention exactly what was coming for the audiences and OpenAI’s users. Looks like OpenAI plans to launch or give a demo of something every day for 12 days straight. The “Shipmas” event could also serve as OpenAI’s response to some competitive pressures. As Google has been bringing a bunch of AI tools, OpenAI seems to be lagging behind. So, there could be a high chance that the company plans to stay ahead with its ‘Shipmas’ featuring some kind of AI updates for constant 12 days.

According to an X (earlier Twitter) post, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hinted that the event is expected to introduce a mix of smaller updates and significant innovations. Such technology would be used to build a new line-up with, among others, a reasoning model expected to broaden the horizons for AI problem-solving.

For example it could bring Sora. Sora is a model developed to generate videos based on input from text. The introduction of bringing was initially announced earlier this year. However, Sora still remains under the cover. This is because some leaks suggest that there is concern from alpha testers sparking debates about its ethical implications and training data. To be specific the AI model was alleged of using YouTube data without any copyright. Some suggested that the AI model secretly extracted YouTube content without giving any credits. But now it seems the AI model might show up, maybe after getting a safety upgrade.

Other updates

In addition to this, the AI company has something special for Christmass. Speculations suggest that OpenAI announcements could include a new Santa-inspired voice for ChatGPT. Some ChatGPT users even claimed that they have spotted code which replaces the voice mode button with a snowflake.
