Nothing Phone 2a launch is right around the corner. But the internet, as you’re probably aware by now, can’t keep calm. Leaks have started to trickle in. Earlier today, a popular tipster that goes by the handle @onleaks on X (the platform previously known as Twitter), leaked the first usable render of the purported Phone 2a full glory, giving us an inside look into how Nothing might be planning to cut cost in a bid to be competitive with pricing.
The Phone 2a, as per the render shared by @onleaks (via Smartprix), although it looks like a phone that Nothing would build is missing out on one of their most signature aesthetic (and somewhat functional) feature — the glyph LED lights. The back of the phone does have all the underpinnings of a Nothing phone with see-through elements giving you the impression you’re peeking right into the innards (but you’re not, since the setup appears to be purely cosmetic) but an even bigger noticeable omission is the custom lighting that Nothing phones are known for. Well, at least the two phones that Nothing has released so far.
So, could the Phone 2a be the first Nothing phone to drop Nothing’s signature move? Maybe. We’ll see.
Anyhow, wireless charging seems highly unlikely, too, looking at the picture. There are two cameras, stacked vertically. Their specs are not known yet.
Nothing has previously gone on record to claim that the Phone 2a will be a clear upgrade compared to the Phone 1 on every front. In hardware specs maybe, but, if the phone ends up losing out on the glyph lights, that might be a step down for some potential customers who’ve been waiting for Nothing to launch a more affordable phone. The Phone 2a is also said to leverage some of the most loved Phone 2 features but we’ll have to wait and watch what those are.
The Phone 2a is believed to be Nothing’s answer to the OnePlus Nord line-up of devices. With a speculated starting price of under Euro 400, it won’t be surprising if Nothing actually swaps the lighting for more competent specs. The Phone 2a will reportedly come with a 120Hz AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chip, and 50-megapixel main camera.
