A Nigerian court has released Tigran Gambaryan, an executive at Binance, after dropping money laundering charges against him. The court made this decision so he could get medical treatment abroad. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the withdrawal of the case during a court session in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.

Gambaryan, a US citizen who is in charge of financial crime compliance at Binance, had been in Kuje prison since late February. He was accused of laundering over $35 million (about Rs 294 crore) along with Binance. While the charges against Gambaryan have been dropped, the EFCC confirmed that the case against Binance will continue without him.

EFCC lawyer Ekele Ihenacho mentioned that diplomatic efforts helped secure Gambaryan’s release, allowing him to seek medical care outside Nigeria. His wife, Yuki, had previously expressed worries about his health, saying his condition could lead to permanent damage.

In addition to the dropped charges, Binance still faces separate claims of tax evasion in Nigeria, which the company also denies. This court decision is an important development in the ongoing legal issues involving Gambaryan and Binance in Nigeria.
