MediaTek officially announced that it will soon bring the much awaited advanced mobile chipset. It’s been over a year since the announcement has been in discussion. This chipset, named Dimensity 9400, is designed to accommodate advanced technologies, the company claimed. MediaTek has also said that the chipset is built to support artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Here’s a deeper dive into the details of the chipset.

Introducing Dimensity 9400

MediaTek had hinted about their in-house chipset during last year’s Computex. After waiting for a year, on October 8 it finally made an official announcement of launching it soon. The Dimensity 9400, is built for a future ready mobile ecosystem. Let’s look at some of the other key features of the Dimensity 9400. The latest 9400 is built on a 3nm process. In addition to this the chipset is “up to 40 percent more power-efficient” than its early versions, which was the 9300.

The 9400 also has one Arm Cortex-X925 core running at 3.62GHz. In addition to this it will also include four Cortex-A720 cores and three Arm Cortex-X4. The company also said that the new combination would provide you with 28% faster multi-core performance. Also, you can expect to get 35% faster single-core performance. Also, the 9400 has Arm’s latest 212-core Immortalis-G95GPU. This promises to provide you about 40% faster ‘Ray tracing’ capabilities.

The chipset is also built to support autonomous activities initiated by AI agents. Also, as several companies are launching Tri-fold phones, the chipset also promises to increase performance of such devices. The upcoming chip is all made to power premium Android phones. However, the Dimensity 9400 is scheduled to come in 2025. So, we just need to wait for some time to actually test its efficiency.

The way ahead

The announcement comes after Qualcomm, MediaTek’s competitor, had already made a mark in powering high-end devices. It looks like MediaTek is also set to stay ahead of its competitors. The Dimensity 9400 will be powered by a Dimensity Agentic AI Engine. The Agentic AI engine will work as a framework to standardize applications of so-called agentic AI. Notably, agentic AI has the capability to support the next wave of AI models which can learn and plan actions with a degree of autonomy.

Furthermore, “MediaTek has been developing the Dimensity Agentic AI engine for some time,” Finbarr Moynihan,  company’s vice president of corporate marketing, explained in an official blog.
