The Lok Sabha Secretariat has launched a number of AI-driven and tech-based initiatives in a major push towards digitally empowered governance. These initiatives are meant to streamline parliamentary functions and promote greater inclusivity and transparency for both lawmakers and citizens.

The adoption of a digital attendance system is among the most notable innovations. MPs will use Multimedia Devices (MMDs) at their assigned seats in the Lok Sabha hall to record their attendance starting with the Monsoon Session. This will save time by doing away with the need for traditional paper-based sign-ins.

The Secretariat has also begun publishing daily agenda documents in 12 regional languages as part of its efforts to promote linguistic diversity. These resources are now immediately available in Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Marathi thanks to AI-powered translation systems.

To further modernise parliamentary procedures, the Lok Sabha has partnered with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to implement a cutting-edge AI-powered speech-to-text transcription system. This tool, which was created by the National Language Translation Mission and is based on the “Sansad Bhashini” framework, can quickly and precisely translate multilingual parliamentary speeches into written text.

It is positioned to become the main option for recording discussions and debates in real time and is made to complement current documentation techniques. These innovative technology improvements, which were presented at a pre-session strategy meeting chaired by Speaker Om Birla, represent a sea change for parliamentary operations.

Parliament hopes to improve procedural efficiency, increase transparency, and promote greater public participation in the process by incorporating artificial intelligence into its core operations.
