Reliance Jio has implemented a significant tariff hike, raising prepaid plan prices by 13-25% effective July 3, 2024. This increase sees Jio’s most affordable prepaid plan now starting at Rs 189, up from the previous Rs 155. Despite the price rise, the benefits of the plan remain unchanged.

Key details of the Rs 189 plan

The Rs 189 prepaid plan, formerly priced at Rs 155, offers 2GB of lump-sum 4G data with a validity of 28 days. It continues to include unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS per day. Despite the price increase, Jio’s plan is still cheaper than Bharti Airtel’s most affordable prepaid plan, which now costs Rs 199 after the July 3 price hike. Both plans offer the same benefits and validity.

Confusion over Rs 349 plan validity

Amid these changes, there has been confusion regarding the validity of Jio’s Rs 349 plan. Online reports suggested that Jio had extended the plan’s validity from 28 days to 30 days. This speculation was fueled by a tweet from Jio marketing the Rs 349 plan, which described it as having a “1-month validity.” Many assumed this implied an extension from 28 days to 30 days, supposedly in response to customer feedback. However, the tweet did not mention any such change explicitly.

Verification on both the My Jio app and the Jio website confirms that the Rs 349 plan still has a 28-day validity. As of now, there have been no changes to the plan’s validity, and any updates will be reported as they happen.

Benefits of the Rs 349 plan

Currently, the Rs 349 plan includes 2GB of 4G data per day, unlimited voice calling, and 100 SMS per day for a period of 28 days. It is now the entry-level plan for accessing Jio’s unlimited 5G service. Before July 3, plans as low as Rs 239 included the unlimited 5G benefit. However, the recent tariff hike has not only increased the price of the Rs 239 plan but also removed the unlimited 5G benefit from it. Now, only plans offering 2GB/day data or more qualify for the unlimited 5G perk.
