Reliance Jio on Friday launched JioSoundPay that provides sound alerts on JioBharat phones for UPI payments received. The same will do away with the need for any sound box that is currently being used by merchants to confirm the receipt of UPI payments via Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm.

The move assumes significance as existing small and micro merchants pay around Rs 125 a month for a sound box to companies such as PhonePe, Paytm, etc.

“Now, with JioSoundPay being provided Free, JioBharat users will save Rs 1,500 annually,” the company said, adding that the feature will help 50 million small-scale merchants.

According to Jio, the merchant experience will be improved with JioSoundPay through instant, multilingual audio confirmations for every UPI payment.

Currently, JioBharat 4G phone is available at a starting price of Rs 699. The company said any merchant purchasing a new JioBharat phone can recover the entire price of the phone in just six months.

“With the free JioSoundPay feature on JioBharat and the soulful renditions of Vande Mataram, we celebrate the spirit of India and reaffirm our commitment to building a truly Digital India,” said Sunil Dutt, president, Jio.
