This week, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel introduced an automatic three-day extension for prepaid plans nearing expiry, allowing users to stay connected without the need for an immediate recharge. Airtel stated that the temporary measure is introduced in response to heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions across multiple States and Union Territories, which have significantly affected network services. Customers in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh are receiving the validity extension along with complimentary voice and data benefits.
For Jio users:
Prepaid Mobile and JioHome subscribers with expiring plans this week will be granted an automatic 3-day validity extension. Mobile users will get unlimited voice calling and 2GB of high-speed data per day, at no additional cost or recharge requirement and JioHome users will get 3 additional days benefit of their last valid plan at no additional cost.
Postpaid Mobile and JioHome users will receive a 3-day grace period for bill payments, maintaining seamless service continuity without any interruptions.
“Jio’s on-ground engineering teams are working diligently to enhance network resilience and further strengthen infrastructure to meet ongoing challenges,” the fiem said in a statement.
For Airtel users:
All Airtel prepaid customers in the affected regions whose packs expire this week will automatically get a three-day validity extension. During this period, they will also be provided with unlimited calling and 1GB of daily data, regardless of whether they recharge their account. These benefits will remain active even if a recharge is made within the grace window.
Meanwhile, Airtel’s postpaid and broadband subscribers in the same areas are being offered an additional three days to clear their bills. The move is intended to guarantee uninterrupted connectivity for users impacted by severe weather events such as floods and landslides.
A Business Standard report states that the Indian government has directed all telecom operators in the country to keep the ICR facility active in Jammu and Kashmir until September 2.
