Many iPhone users reported a bug on Tuesday with Apple’s auto-dictation feature. The problem occurred when the iPhone users tried to say the word “racist,” the phone typed “Trump” instead. This news of the issue spread like wildfire after a viral TikTok video last week. Even the New York Times covered it. The video showed that the bug didn’t happen every time, and it would quickly correct itself.
Apple in a statement to the Associated Press on Wednesday said, “We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers Dictation and we are rolling out a fix today.”
The cause of the bug in iPhones is unclear, but Apple mentioned that it might have been due to a “phonetic overlap” between the two words and promised to fix it.
The problem sparked anger and concern on social media as Apple works on improving its artificial intelligence.
This is not the first time that an Apple bug has involved US President Donald Trump. During Trump’s first term as president, Apple’s voice assistant Siri caused a stir on social media when it showed an image of a penis after being asked, “Who is Donald Trump?”
The issue happened because some users edited Trump’s Wikipedia page to include the inappropriate image, and Siri pulled that information, qz.com reported.
This week, Apple also announced it plans to invest over $500 billion and hire 20,000 people in the United States over the next four years. In a separate matter, Apple shareholders rejected an effort to make the company join Trump’s push to end programs that aim to diversify its workforce.
